Lights! Camera! Action!

A couple months back, we were selected by the Carpet and Rug Institute to help them in filming an informational video about themselves and the carpet industry. They filmed us demonstrating Seal of Approval vacuums and also filmed the showroom to display some of our CRI approved vacuums. We sell plenty of CRI-approved vacuums such as Sebo, Riccar, and Sanitaire. Their segment on the Profile Series television program on the Bravo Network aired Monday, May 18. Scott, Robert, and Abby can be seen on the segment.

Here's a couple pictures of the production:

We would like to thank the Carpet and Rug Institute for giving us the opportunity to demo these machines for them and having them to come to our store and film. It was a really fun experience and I can only hope that we get an opportunity like this again.

No Problum Here, Mon

What a wonderful week it was. This will mark the 5th year in a row Electrolux has brought us along on their yearly trip. They only take the top of the top dealers and their spouse away to show their appreciation of the hard work we do. We stayed at the awesome 5-star Iberostar Grand Rose Hall in Montego Bay, Jamaica. These rooms were great. We had our own butler! The hotel features multiple infinity pools, and a view that could not be compared to anything. That's what blew me away when we checked in the first day. It was all inclusive so we didn't have to move much from the hotel besides for the excursions we went on. Abby and I partook in relaxing personal massages and I enjoyed a couple rounds of golf.

We went to the legendary Rick's Cafe, had some fabulous Jamaican food and watched cliff divers. The Cafe is located right on the edge of a cliff face where it's nothing but the clearest bluest water you've every seen. Later in the week we went to the tropical rainforest and experienced what I say is the coolest ride in the world. Its the Rainforest Bobsled at Mystic Mountain in Ocho Rios. "The signature attraction of Mystic Mountain is the Bobsled ride. Custom-designed bobsleds evoking the glory of the Jamaican Olympic bobsled team travels along stainless steel rails on a 1,000 meter gravity driven ride through the forest. Imagine a bobsled roller coaster through a tropical forest". Doesn't that sound like the coolest thing ever? Trust me, it was. We took a trip down the Martha Brae River. We traveled down the 3 mile river on a 90 minute ride on long bamboo rafts that the locals poled across the river with. It's a gentle river with little to no rapids. It was a great day that day, wasn't too hot nor did it rain that much. It was a great addition to an already relaxing vacation.

Here's a picture of us with Greg Miller, Vice President of Sales, with Rene Kaiser, eastern area director and David Parks, national sales director as well. Everyone had a wonderful time this year. The weather was perfect everyday and the nights were even better.

We would like to thank Electrolux for everything. They treat their people first-class the whole way. It feels great to have such a giant like Electrolux treat you like family, truly makes us feel like we're on top of the world. So far they've taken us to Cabo San Lucas, Alaska, Hawaii, Costa Rica, and now Jamaica. They keep outdoing themselves each year. For next year, there's word floating around that the Mediterranean is the next stop. If so, We can't wait.

I leave you with a sunset from our last night there. This was shot from our balcony window

Proper Central Vacuum Maintenance

Now a central vacuum is a lot like a car. If you want to get the most out of your central vacuum system for the longest length of time you need to properly maintain the system. Like a well-tuned car, the proper time and energy put into it will reflect on the lifetime of the unit. We still have people coming into the store with 20+ year systems. There's a couple things you can do to properly maintain your vacuum.

To extend the life of your central vacuum motor, you need to replace the carbon brushes every five years. Though this is not the "everyday task" that's as easy as changing a bag, but can save you hundreds in motor replacement or even unit replacement. Carbon brushes conduct electric current between moving parts and stationary wire. It's the middle man in supplying your vacuum with the power coming from the motor. After a while it'll get worn and will need to be changed.

Another quick and easy way to maintain your system is to use Tornado Cloths. These little sheets of paper clean out whatever maybe still in your piping or hose. Just simply suck up one sheet through each inlet and you can hear it grabbing small debris and carry it to your central vacuum. Cleaning out your piping and giving you the proper suction your system is meant to provide.

The final task is the most simple of them all. Changing the filters and bags to your system. Now changing the bag is something that has to be done when it's time to change it, but most people just change the bag and leave it at that. Most systems today require you to change the filter every couple months, depending on the unit and use. This will insure that your central vacuum motor is drawing in clean, dirt-free air and will give you the full life of the system.
